How Does Dyson Hand Dryers Compare To Other Electric Hand Dryers?

This article examines how Dyson hand dryers measure up to other electric hand dryers. The Dyson Airblade is different from the other brands because instead of using warm air, it applies a sheet of air at ambient temperature traveling at the speed of 400 mph to dry the water from the hands. The high air speed and the unique design of the dryer such that a sheet of air is applied on both sides of the hands at the same time permit the hands to be dried in just 10 seconds, which is much faster compared to the drying speed of about 30 seconds or more for conventional hand dryers. Studies sponsored by the paper towel industry have questioned the hygiene associated with Dyson hand dryers, claiming that they cause an increase in the number of bacteria on the hands and the contaminate people standing close to the dryers but Dyson had countered that independent studies have attested to the reduction of bacteria on the hands by 90 percent.

One of the reasons Dyson hand dryers are supposed to be more hygienic compared to other hand dryers is that they utilize a HEPA filter that has anti-microbial additives. This membrane filter is designed to capture and destroy 99.9 percent of the bacteria that is present in the air before blowing it onto the hands of the user. This is one feature that is not found in most electric hand dryers like the XLerator hand dryer, Nova hand dryer from World Dryer, and the ASI hand dryers. Moreover, NSF International, which is an independent specialist on public health, certifies that Dyson dryers are hygienic.

And because the Dyson devices do not use warm air and require only 10 seconds to dry the hands, it is claimed that they consume 80 percent less energy compared to other brands. This is why they can provide savings of more than 90 percent compared to the use of paper towels. It also avoids the expenses associated with paper towels that include the materials costs of buying them, storing them, replenishing the containers and disposing of the soiled towels.

Because Dyson hand dryers do not heat the air like conventional hand dryers, they only require 1600 watts of electric power compared to 2400 watts. And because the running time is only 10 seconds per person, the Dyson dryers are more energy efficient and more friendly to the environment because they require 80 percent less energy. It should be noted, however, that the XLerator hand dryer also makes the claim that it needs 80 percent less energy despite having a heating element. Nevertheless, according to studies, the Dyson Airblade dryers have a substantially reduced carbon footprint because of the lower energy consumption and the fact that they do not contribute to the landfills. Overall, these dryers offer an attractive alternative to paper towels in the washroom because they cost less to operate and have minimal impact on the environment. They may also be preferred to other dryers because of lower power consumption and faster drying speed.
